Creating a Chart

Select data

Select a data range on the sheet.

Open the editor

Open the Chart editor from the toolbar or right-click menu.

Pick a type

Choose a chart type, confirm your data series, and customize its appearance.

Add to sheet

Click Add to Sheet.
The editor has three tabs: Setup (chart type), Data (labels/series/aggregation), and Customize (legend, colors, fonts, axes).

Chart Types

Line, Smooth Line, Area, Stacked Area, 100% Stacked Area
When creating a new chart from a selection, Tablix scores your data against a set of heuristics and suggests the best-fitting chart types automatically:

Data Setup

  • Labels — column for the X-axis/categories, with optional label filtering (search + multi-select which categories to include)
  • Lines / Values — column(s) to chart; Scorecards support up to 2 values (key value + baseline)
  • Aggregate Data — Sum, Count, Average, Max, Min, or Median
  • Groups (Hierarchy) — for Treemaps, multiple columns define nested grouping levels
  • Chart & Axis Titles, plus Value Axis controls: min/max, format (auto/number/currency/percent/compact), currency code, decimal places, tick count, logarithmic scale

Customization

Legend position (right/bottom/top/hidden); data labels on/off with number or percentage format and custom color; points shown on line/area/combo charts.
Gridlines on/off, shadow effect, background color (including transparent), text color, gridline color, font family.
7 built-in palettes (Ocean Blue, Emerald Green, Sunset Red, Royal Purple, Golden Amber, Grayscale, Professional Multi), plus per-series custom colors.
Waterfall (total/increase/decrease), Heatmap (low/medium/high), Funnel (base color with auto-generated shades).

Managing a Chart

Right-click a chart (or use its menu) to Edit chart, Copy/Cut, Download as PNG, or Delete.

Creating a Chart with AI

You don’t have to touch the chart editor at all — open the AI Assistant and just describe the chart you want in plain English. Tablix picks an appropriate chart type, builds it, and drops it onto your sheet automatically.

Example Prompts

You don’t need to name a chart type at all — “Show me profit by region” works just as well as “Create a bar chart of profit by region”. If you don’t specify one, Tablix picks a sensible type for you (see Recommended Charts above for the same logic used in the manual chart editor).

What Happens After You Ask

You type a request

In the AI Assistant, describe the chart in plain English — mention the chart type only if you care which one it uses.

Tablix reads your data

It looks at your sheet’s actual column headers and sample rows to know what’s available to chart.

The chart is built and placed

A chart appears directly on your sheet, next to your data — no manual setup, no picking labels/series yourself.

You get a short confirmation

The AI Assistant replies with a brief summary of what it created, instead of a wall of text.
